Panchakarma Treatment


Panchakarma as the name indicates is a method of treatment, which includes five (Paanch) basic procedures (Karma). Panchakarma is a set of five therapeutic treatments administered to the patient for the complete detoxification of the body especially from digestive system, lungs, blood vessels and nervous system. It strengthens the muscles and joints and accelerate the hormone secretion of all glands. People with constant stress and strain from their day to day work, addicts of alcohol and all kinds of drugs, those who suffer from arthritis, rheumatism, constipation, migraines etc. are recommended to go through this treatment. It promots appetite, sexualilty, memmory, sleep quality and concentration.

Panchakarma is a 21 to 28 days treatment, with 5 phases of program.

Pizhichil Treatment


Ayurveda treatment Pizhichil is a combination of oil massage and heat treatment. A gentle, synchronized massage of up and down is carried out on all parts of the body other than the head are subjected to this treatment. The patient should lay on the treatment table and two to four trained therapists perform the massage under the supervision of a physician. It is administered in seven standard positions, so that no area oft he body is left uncovered.

Here, cloth dipped in warm medicated oil is squeezed over the patient’s body uniformly and then the oil rubbed smoothly over the body of the patient by masseurs on either side. This process may take 1 hour including continuous oil pouring over the body, then rubbing and stimulating the skin using hands and special cotton cloths. Special caution has to be taken for the patient’s head should not get sweat during the treatment. A cloth is tied over the forehead of the therapy taker to prevent oil from getting into the eyes.Duration of Pizhichil is decided by the Ayurveda expert after the body constitution of the individual has been determined. Normally the treatment may last 14 to 28 days.

This is a highly rejuvenating treatment that enhances muscular tone and retunes the entire nervous system. It comes as a package in itself – a course of 10 days is necessary to gain its maximum healing Potential.

Navarakizhi Treatment


The body is massaged with small linen paultices (kizhi) filled with Navara rice, which is cooked in cows milk and a specific ayurvedic herbal mixture. These poultices are dipped in the same mixture and applied over the whole body. The poultices are maintained at a medium temperature. After wipping the body with a dry towel, the medicated oil is applied again. The normal duration for this therapy is 14 to 21 days. It is one oft he most excellent form of treatment for inducing luster tot he skin and nourishment for the whole body through the skin. This treat ment will improve blood circulation, muscle tone, eliminates toxins from the body through the skin pores, makes the skin smoother and rejunuvated.

Shirodhara Treatment


The word Shirodhara came from Sanskrit language. Shiro means pertains to head and Dhara means to flow. Shirodhara is a technique of pouring medicatede oils over the forehead with the help of Shirodhara equipment to treat and cure psychosomatic ailments by inducing relaxation through peripheral nerves to the brain.

It is very useful for stress reduction and treating diseases associated with depression, anxiety and mental fatigue. Shirodhara reduces fatigue and initiate a soothing effect on brain cells. It might be working due to the effect of a soothing sensation of poured liquids through peripheral nerves of the skin of the forehead and then they go to the brain with calming and soothing energies, which help to reduce stress and induce sleep. Due to constant flow of liquids over the head, Shirodhara tranquilizes and stabilizes the mind, so the mind becomes serene and calmed. Vasthi Treatment


In ayurveda, though VASTHI is included in the PANCHAKARMA treatment, patients can undergo this treartment alone under the guidance of an expert Ayurveda doctor(vaidya). Different medicines are used for the different procedures depending upon the constitution of the patient.  The physician determines the kind of procedure and the types of medicines to be used after examining the patient. Medicated liquids and oils are the products normally uses for Vasti. Vasti treatment in Pancha Karma is developed for removing toxin from the body and to stop vitiated doshas. The medicinal herbals and oil are the Vasti products. It has an amazing power to control and eliminate vata disorders. Sesame oil, calamus oil and some other herbal decoctions are using for vasti. In a liquid medium, the said items are applies in to rectum. Vasti is an Auyrvedic treatment ensures relax especially to vata disorders.

Kashaya vasti, Uttaravasti, Snehavasti, Siro vasti etc. are known as the main Vastis.

Shirodhara Treatment


Sirovasthi is an effective treatment in Ayurveda for nervous system disorders. It is the term applied to the process of allowing warm herbal oils on the head for a specific period of time. A bandage is tied around the patient’s head and an open-headed cap is secured. Then, medicated oil is warmed to the body temperature, poured into this cap and allowed to soak into the scalp.

The primary step of Sirovasthi starts with the application of warm medicated oil which is an amalgam of gingerly oil, castor oil, milk, ghee and other herb extracts. It helps to nourish the nerve ends and prepares the body for the main treatment. Then, a cylindrical shaped leather cap of over ten inches length with both ends open is fitted around the head of the patient. Certain amount of different blended herbal oils is then poured on the patient’s head. This oil is retained on the head for around 30 to 45 minutes as per an individual’s body type. During this treatment, the healing properties of the medicated oil act on the brain and tune the central and autonomous nervous system. The patient’s brain, peripheral nerves and spinal cord receives the medicinal effects of this oil. Consequently, several nerve disorders get restored and the mind gets relief from stress. The complete duration of the treatment varies as per the patient’s condition and type of disease.

Sirovasthi treatment is recommended for facial paralysis, dryness of nostrils, mouth and throat, itching on the head, eye problems, memory loss, burning sensation of head, insomnia, disease of cranial nerves and hair fall. It is also used to treat nervous disorders like hemiplegia, quadriplegia and eye diseases due to weak nerves, spondylitis, and certain other skin disorders of the head.

Udwarthanam Treatment


Use of powder made of herbs in body massage is called Udvartana (ayurvedic powder massage & spelled as Udwarthanam and Udvarthanam). The word “Udvartana” refers to elevation and upward strokes during massage. An ayurvedic massage expert can better perform this massage with special techniques. Especially, the rubbing during massage goes in opposite direction as compared to conventional massage. Abhyangam Treatment


Abhyanga is a form of Ayurveda therapy which is a full body massage using warm oil. The Abhyanga massage, also known as extensive oiling in the western world. Abhyanga is a full body massage using oil and is applied by two massage therapists working in sync but it can also be done by one massage therapist using both hands.

Abhyanga can be experienced as an element of Ayurveda therapy. After an individual consultation with the therapist, oils and herbs are chosen to suit the client’s needs. In most cases the oils consist of a base oil like sesame oil with added essential herbs. During the Abhyanga massage, a large amount of warm oil is spread over the entire body including the scalp, ears and feet. After an Ayurveda massage, it is said that all the essential herbs are absorbed by the body, which is excellent for your health.

Nasya Treatment


Nasya karma is the best procedure for treating Sirorogas (diseases affecting the head area) like migraine, chronic headaches, sinusitis, ear, nose and throat disorders. This involves the purification of the head region of the patient. In this process, the imbalanced doshas above the neck are removed through the nasal openings. Nasal errhines are given to the patient in the form of medicinal oils, medicated powders or churnas, medicated juice/milk or medicinal fumes. The importance of this Panchakarma technique has been specified in the disease of the ear, nose and throat, mental diseases, toxicity, epilepsy, headaches, and untimely graying of the hair.

Nasya helps to clear and lubricate the sinus passage, relieving acute and chronic sinus problems such as allergies, mucous congestion, dryness, and snoring. Nasya also helps to relieve headaches, migraines, stiff neck, fatigue, insomnia, and stress-related problems. It reduces anxiety, clears and strengthens the mind, and stimulates the nervous system.

Nasya is praised in yoga because of its effects on concentration and meditation, as well as its lubricating action which soothes the drying of the nasal passages from regular breathing practices (Pranayama).
